Shipwright/carpenter exposed to cancer-causing chemicals

A retired worker recently died after more than 30 years of work where he was exposed to cancer-causing chemicals. He had worked as a shipwright for many years before the dangers of asbestos were understood. He later worked in fire restoration as a carpenter.

Logging truck driver died while removing trailer reach pin

The driver of an off-highway logging truck was attempting to remove the trailer reach pin. A hydraulic log loader was being used to relieve pressure on the pin. The front bunk stake was secured, pointing out over the rear of the truck. When the pin came free, the trailer reach struck the worker, causing him to fall backwards and strike his head against the bunk stake.

A worker who had been employed in floor installation for more than 50 years recently died of asbestosis. He often had to sand asbestos-backed linoleum or vinyl-asbestos tiles off of floors before laying new materials.

Truck driver crushed against truck by reversing loader

A truck driver was using the truck-mounted air hose to blow excess sawdust off his truck after dumping a load. A loader in the area unexpectedly reversed, fatally crushing him against the steel box of his truck.

Shipyard worker exposed to asbestos dust in 1950s and 1960s
